Connect to the Sun with The Four Solar Adorations

(Liber Resh vel Helios)

This exercise comes from the beginning of Israel Regardie’s book The One Year Manual. The Four Solar Adorations are a great way to begin the disciplines in modern mysticism. Speak these at the four quadrants of the day: Sunrise, Midday, Sunset, and Midnight. The Four Solar Adorations reconnect you to the Solar Logos as it traverses through the heavens. Corresponding with the Sephiroth Tipareth, the first sphere of consciousness, you begin to learn THE PRINCIPLE OF ADEPTSHIP by acknowledging the Great Star in its different aspects throughout the day.

This disciple is also introduced to the symbology and culture of Ancient Egypt, where the Sun was the Major Deity, also being of import to the Golden Dawn. In order to do The Four Solar Adorations effectively, you must perform the Neophyte signs. These are presented in the teachings of the Golden Dawn as secret gestures that
exemplify the spirit of the grade. The Neophyte signs are the most important of all the grade signs in the Outer Order. There are two of them, the Sign of the Enterer and the Sign of Silence (Harpocrates), and the second sign completes them.

A few things I love to do to enhance The Four Solar Adorations: Sit on the beach at Sunset, and sungaze just as the hue shifts to dusk, when the UV is low, and then meditate and give thanks. At noon, I like to bask for about 10 minutes to grab a quick ion recharge. (Do not stare at the Sun midday!) For the midnight utterance, it may not be possible. You can use any skymap app to locate the Sun at whatever time you are going to sleep, and focus your awareness on it while you utter. You may want to also try a death meditation before you drift off to the Underworld!

Connect With Ra at Sunrise:

At dawn, or upon rising, face east, give the Sign of the Enterer and say:

Hail unto thee, who art Ra in thy rising, even unto thee who art Ra in thy
strength, who travelest over the heavens in thy bark at the uprising of the
sun. Tahuti standeth in his splendor at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at
the helm. Hail unto thee from the abodes of night!

from Israel Regardie’s One Year Manual

Then give the Sign of Silence.

Charge Up with Hathor At Noon

Facing south, give the Sign of the Enterer, and say:

Hail unto thee who art Hathor in thy triumphing, even unto thee who
art Hathor in thy beauty, who travelest over the heavens in thy bark at
the mid-course of the sun. Tahuti standeth in his splendor at the prow,
and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto thee from the abodes of the
morning!

from Israel Regardie’s One Year Manual

Then give the Sign of Silence.

Give Thanks to Tum At sunset

Facing west, give the Sign of the Enterer, and say:
Hail unto thee who art Tum in thy setting, even unto thee who art Tum
in thy joy, who travelest over the heavens in thy bark at the down-going of
the sun. Tahuti standeth in his splendor at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth
at the helm. Hail unto thee from the abodes of the day!

from Israel Regardie’s One Year Manual

Then give the Sign of Silence.

Fight the Fear of Death with Kephra At midnight

(or upon going to sleep)

Face north, giving the Sign of the Enterer, and say:

Hail unto thee who art Kephra in thy hiding, even unto thee who art
Kephra in thy silence, who travelest over the heavens in thy bark at the
midnight hour of the sun. Tahuti standeth in his splendor at the prow,
and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto thee from the abodes of the
evening!

From Israel Regardie’s One Year Manual

Then give the Sign of Silence.
